Education news at HSE University

On the first day of the new academic year, HSE University Rector Nikita Anisimov, Academic Supervisor Yaroslav Kuzminov, and Honorary Academic Supervisor Evgeny Yasin have addressed first-year students. 

Despite increasingly growing competition, HSE University сonsistently ranks fourth among Russian universities and 120^th among world’s top universities in the Moscow International Ranking ‘Three University Missions’ (MosIUR). In 2021, the total number of universities in the global ranking increased from 1,500 to 1,650 compared with last year.

Karina Kuzhanova, third-year student at the Faculty of Law, and Anna Yatsenko, second-year student at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, moved to Moscow from Kazakhstan to study at HSE University. They shared their impressions of studies and student life with the HSE News Service, as well as talking about some of the most inspirational things in the Russian capital.

On August 20, the second online HSE Summer University came to an end. Students from 22 universities in 13 different countries enrolled in its courses. The Summer University 2021 was a truly international event, and while it was a little different from previous ones, it was no less unique.

As part of his official visit to Perm, HSE Rector Nikita Anisimov met with Dmitry Makhonin, Governor of Perm Krai. They signed a cooperation agreement between HSE University and the Government of Perm Krai. Key decisions made during the meeting include the creation of a HSE Lyceum in Perm for 10^th and 11^th-graders, with the first enrolment in 2022.

HSE University has demonstrated explosive growth in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) (Shanghai Ranking), improving its standing by as many as 200 places. The university climbed to the 601-700 group of ARWU and advanced from 7-8th to the 4-5th among Russian universities.

The 4^th International Economics Olympiad (IEO) has come to a close after taking place online in Latvia from July 21 to 1 August. The competition was organized by HSE University and the University of Latvia.

Nikolay Kuzin, a 2011 graduate of ICEF, is brand manager at Sanofi Pasteur (France), a company that has been manufacturing vaccines for many years and where he oversees the launch of new products in Eastern European markets. We spoke with Nikolay about how he combines the background in finance with the administrative responsibilities in his position, about the unique nature of French master’s programmes, about how long it really takes to develop a vaccine, and about why Europeans trust medical developments in their countries.
