Book by HSE Arts and Design School Wins Award

Cast-iron Logic of Russia, a book prepared by staff and students of the HSE Arts and Design School, has won the national award in the ‘Best Books and Publishers of the Year’ competition.
The book Cast-iron Logic of Russiawas prepared for the anniversary of the United Metallurgical Company (OMK). The book is about Russian metallurgy, its role in Russian history, science, culture and art. It is a colourful historical and journalistic review illustrated with hundreds of rare photos, documents, and paintings. Two and a half centuries of Russian metallurgical history are covered in its 324 pages, 510 chapters, and 1035 illustrations.
All the publishing processes, including layout design, composition, search for and creation of illustrations, license coordination and prepress, were carried out by the staff of the Arts and Design School Publishing House (HSE Design Lab) together with students from the HSE Arts and Design School. The book won the national award in the ‘Encyclopedias’ category. The awards ceremony will take place on March 1 at the Russian State Library.

The HSE Arts and Design School Publishing House develops concepts and ready-to-print layouts, as well as carrying out research, search, editing, making up, prepress preparation, and support at the printing house. The Publishing House employs renowned professionals in publishing, participants of international exhibitions, award winners, creators of outstanding books and book series, together with senior students of the School.
The ‘Best Books and Publishers of the Year’ award was established in 2000 by the Russian Biographical Institute, the Russian State Library, Literaturnaya Gazeta, and Orden Educational Society.
